A Short History

Maroons (from the word Spanish word "Cimarron": "fugitive, runaway", lit. "living on mountaintops"; from Spanish cima: "top, summit") were runaway slaves in the West Indies, Central America, South America, and North America, who formed independent settlements together. The same designation has also become a derivation for the verb to maroon.

Drop Some Science on em!

Thousands of slaves found freedom by fleeing into the mountains, forming communities of maroons and raiding isolated plantations. The most famous was Mackandal, a one-armed slave, originally from Guinea (region), who escaped in 1751. A Vodou Houngan (priest), he united many of the different maroon bands, and spent the next six years staging successful raids and evading capture by the French, reputedly killing over 6,000 people, while preaching a fanatic vision of the destruction of white civilization in Saint-Domingue. In 1758, after a failed plot to poison the drinking water of the plantation owners, he was captured and burned alive at the public square in Cap-Français.

Best Decade in HipHop?

One would think this is a question best answered by someone who'd be considered "Old Skool" or "True Skool" as I refer to it... BUT! If u consider urself a true student or even master of HipHop culture, no matter ur age u should be able to drop some science on the topic @ hand. And please understand, we're talkin' opinions here ppl.. We need 2 understand the difference between Fact..&...Opinion. The more we grasp that concept, it will become easier to avoid argument, & leave the table open 4 civilized discussion & debate.
Anyhoo, just 2 get the ball rollin' a lil bit, I jus wanna say I'm leanin towards the 90's as the best decade in HipHop so far... With the 80's @ a close 2nd. Bcuz let's face it, HipHop has lost its diversity since the 1980's! Back then we had The straight up rock the party crowd type of rappaz, the I'm da illest u can't rap betta than me type of rappaz, comedic rappaz, pro black rappaz, white rappaz, gangsta rappaz, nahmeen, all different type of rappaz n ish! Since then what do we got? Gangstaz, pimps n hustlaz? Honestly speaking the diversity is out there but has almost disappeared way beneath the surface. Negativity has been in demand 4 the most part y'all, as far as I can tell... That's my OPINION. What's YOUR opinion? We'd like 2 kno!
